Mental health week is over, and honestly it’s been the hardest week of my life. Coming back from Florida hit harder than usual this trip. We arrived home on Sunday, by the Thursday I was having a colonoscopy and I was told the news that I have bowel cancer. It’s been 11 days since then with no more information. Till today. No one can really prepare you for this time, the not knowing, hearing those words ‘you have cancer’ but no other information available. Not knowing if it’s spread, not knowing if you’re going to die. Waiting. The mental torture has seen me at the lowest I’ve ever been. The thought of leaving my family, my friends and Simon. Seeing the pain in their eyes as they wait in this torture with me. MRI & CT scans were done Friday and today I got the news that they don’t think it’s spread. I’ll meet with the team face to face this week to understand what happens next. This is just the first step of a long journey and I can’t help but feel relieved to know at least it hasn’t spread, as the outlook wouldn’t be as positive if it had. I have Ulcerative Colitis so they do regular colonoscopies to check for abnormalities anyway, though this was actioned as I noticed a change last year. I can’t stress how important it is to check yourself, we know our bodies best. If something has changed, get it check out. It might be nothing, or it might be something. I told my specialist in November I thought this was different, and sadly it turns out I was right. Don’t ignore something if you’re worried, get yourself to the GP and get referred to find out what it is. It’s going to be a big mountain to climb, but I’m ready to begin 💪🏼 #cancerawareness #mentalhealthweek #watsonsdodisney
