Encounters and sounds from the Arctic sea ice. The last 12 months of my career have had some truly once in a lifetime moments documenting Polar Bears in the marginal ice zone, situated just south of the North Pole. I have been preparing for an upcoming exhibition and decided to put a series of these moments together, giving a broader window into the life of these magnificent creatures in one of the harshest and most remote environments on the planet. All of these scenes were captured during ship-based expeditions across the Arctic.
Hii hello I’m Helene and I’m a soft explorer :) 🦋☁️ I used to be (and still sometimes am) a bit embarrassed that I’m not more “extreme” in my outdoorsy lifestyle. I felt like I should be better at skiing, camp more in the winter, surf, climb, go on expeditions, do longer hikes… But the truth is, that’s just not my kind of adventure. I’ve tried. But I like it simple, cozy, and slow. The most extreme thing I do is run fast up steep mountains for fun, and do ice dips in the winter for an adrenaline kick. Aside from that, I enjoy slow days on the road, cooking yummy meals by the fjord, and stopping by every single bakery, obviously 🌝 So please don’t ever feel ashamed if you’re not into extreme sports or don’t dream of climbing some crazy mountain. Just do you, for you!!! 💓
