👑 Day 2: Royal Engagement Ceremony – The Union of Two Families. What an unforgettable day as we continue our “Coming to Africa” wedding celebrations! Today marked a deeply traditional moment where Ben’s family made their official visit to my family’s home, bearing the dowry and gifts to honor and formalize the union. The ceremony began with Ben’s Ɔkyeame (spokesperson) knocking at the door and respectfully requesting permission to enter. Once welcomed, they presented the carefully prepared gifts — including money, drinks, luggage, and all the items from the official marriage list that delegates had received in prior visits. Then came the powerful question from my family: “Why have you come?” With humility, Ben’s family replied that they had seen a beautiful flower in the home and were seeking permission to pluck it 🌸. Next, Ben, the groom was called forward, he had a grand entrance with ladies dropping rose petals before him, he greeted the elders with deep respect and answered thoughtful questions designed to test his character, values, and readiness for marriage. Once satisfied, my family called for myself, the bride. As a Queen, I entered gracefully, escorted by elders, family, and friends carried in on a palanquin. My father asked me three times if he should accept the dowry. With a joyful “yes,” I publicly accepted the union before everyone gathered. Vows were shared, rings were blessed, and hearts overflowed with emotion. One of the most touching and symbolic highlights was the traditional stool-sitting rite. Married women gently seated me on the stool three times while offering powerful prayers over my life and marriage. This act beautifully symbolizes that I now have a permanent place in my husband’s life, family, and home. The day closed with a celebration as both families united in joy!
