I am deeply saddened by the tragic killing of a young mother, a life filled with promise, love and responsibility, cut short in the most heartbreaking way. My prayers are with her child, her family and every person now left to carry the pain of this unimaginable loss. What troubles me even more is hearing the voice note now circulating, where threats were made against her life. We cannot continue to dismiss threats, intimidation and emotional abuse as “relationship problems” or private matters. Too often, the warning signs are there and too often, we wait until it is too late. To the young men of our country: strength is not found in control, anger, or violence. Real strength is found in discipline, respect, patience and the ability to walk away when emotions become dangerous. No woman belongs to you. No disagreement, heartbreak, or rejection justifies violence. We must raise our boys to value women, to communicate better, to seek help when overwhelmed and to understand that love should never come with fear. As a society, we all have a responsibility, families, friends, communities, churches, schools and leaders alike to speak up, intervene and protect our women before another life is stolen. Let this tragedy not become another headline we mourn for a moment and then forget. Let it be a turning point. A moment where we decide, together, that our women will be protected, our daughters will be valued, and our young men will be taught that true manhood is rooted in respect, not violence.
