For our 65th Nyekor, the team traveled to the village of Khoma in Lhuntse, Bhutan. Our destination was the sacred site known as Sangwa Dadru. Located just a 20-30 minute hike above Khoma village, it is a site we highly recommend visiting if you ever find yourself exploring eastern Bhutan. The name Sangwa Dadru holds deep meaning: Sangwa translates to “secret,” and Dadru means “six months.” It is said that Guru Rinpoche (Padmasambhava) and his consort, Khandro Yeshe Tshogyal, spent six months in secret meditation at this very site. During their retreat, a young village girl named Tashi Khyidren discovered them while she was herding her cows. As a cow herder, she offered the only precious gift she had — fresh cow’s milk. Deeply moved, Guru Rinpoche proclaimed, “Rang la Khorwai Khomo”, meaning “a woman essential for my practice.” Seeing her as someone possessing all the qualities necessary to accomplish the Buddha Dharma, Guru Rinpoche blessed her and, as a result, the village was named Khoma — a name that evolved over time through oral transmission. #Nyekor #SangwaDadru #KhomaLhuntse #BhutanPilgrimage #SacredSites #GuruRinpoche #YesheTshogyal #TashiKhyidren #BhutanTravel
