14/08.2015 – 14/08.2025 Ten years on the road. Before anyone asks why this is coming now and not in August: I document my journey chronologically but editing photos, videos, posting regularly on social media and YouTube takes time. Sometimes I’m crossing deserts, forests, dirt roads with no signal, focused on food, water, and a safe place to sleep hence backlogs happen. Someone once said we overestimate what we can do in a year and underestimate what we can do in a decade. The risk here is sounding self referential so let’s be clear: travellers are in no place teach life lessons. Travel doesn’t bring enlightenment and it doesn’t magically change you. If anything, long distance travel makes you more resilient. That’s it. The day I crossed the ten year mark I was worn out, rushing toward the Iraq border with my visa running out. I hesitated and thought maybe this was the moment to stop and choose a different path for the next decade. Inertia won, I kept pedalling. I don’t care much for stats but for the numbers people: over 95,000 km, 63 countries by August 14, two bikes Isabella and Felicity, around 70,000 photos and roughly 8TB of video. I could have choose like bait images but in the end I picked the ones that matter to me: 1 first day, August 14 2015, Prudhoe Bay Alaska 2 end of the Dalton Highway, zero experience bike travelling and camping, the Arctic nearly broke me 3 the moment the counter hit 10,000 km 4 Colombia and these people changed my life and taught me you can travel with no money 5 5070 metres in Peru, still the highest point of the journey 6 falling stars in Bolivia, luck I still carry 7 Ushuaia, the end of the Americas 8 Cape of Good Hope, the start of Africa 9 Malawi, exactly what you think it is ?!? 10 Congo Nile Trail in Rwanda, learning to hike a bike 11 Cairo, the end of Africa 12 Nordkapp Norway, Europe’s northmost point, overrated 13 Tarifa Spain, southmost point and brutally windy 14 My favourite sunset (in Spain), Africa still wins overall 15 Sahara crossing in winter, pneumonia almost killed me 16 my favourite photo camping in Cappadocia Still here. Still riding. #biketouring #bikepacking #cicloturismo #cycling #travel
