The shark suit is perhaps the piece of gear I have used the longest, starting in 1994. I call it the barrier that drops the barrier between the sharks and us. I use it for interactive dives where I work closely with sharks and remove hooks and parasites. I want responsible interactions that provide a safety consideration for those involved, from the guests observing to the crew, and the sharks. Being responsible doesn’t take away from the fact that sharks are misunderstood and maligned. We must understand the difference between going scuba diving with sharks and directly interacting with them and dealing with hooks and teeth. Interesting fact: when I remove hooks the sharks never react in defense, they let me try, then when the pain is too much, they swim away and come back to allow to try again.
